Communities In Schools

The Need

Formerly known as an "alternative" school, Oakland High School serves students who have high-intensity needs and barriers to success. Most students at Oakland are credit deficient, and many experience difficult circumstances such as housing and food stability, are pregnant or parenting, and lack access to basic resources such as health care.

Programs and Services

The CIS Site Coordinator provides and brokers a variety of services, help students improve their academic outcomes, graduate on time, and ensure access to basic resources, including

  • academic tutoring
  • enrichment programs
  • social and emotional support programs
  • college and career readiness support
  • on-site resources room with food, clothing, hygiene products, and school supplies.

The CIS Site Coordinator also supports the on-site Oakland Health Care by assisting students and families with health insurance navigation.
